Eucerin AtoControl Calming Balm on päivittäiseen käyttöön tarkoitettu vartalovoide, joka on erityisesti kehitetty rauhoittamaan ja kosteuttamaan erittäin ärtynyttä ja kutisevaa ihoa.
Atooppinen ihottuma, eli atooppinen ekseema, tekee ihosta kuivan, ärtyneen ja kutiavan. Kutina aiheuttaa raapimista, mikä puolestaan pahentaa oireita ja voi johtaa ihon tulehtumiseen. Atooppinen ihottuma saattaa myös heikentää elämänlaatua: jatkuva kuivuus, punoitus ja kutina tuntuvat epämukavalta, saattavat aiheuttaa univajetta sekä huonontaa itsetuntoa.
Eucerin AtoControl Calming Balm on kevyt, mutta kosteuttava öljy vedessä -voide on rikastettu rauhoittavalla Licochalcone A:lla, keramideilla ja sheavoilla, jotka vahvistavat ihon suojamuuria sekä lievittävät kuivuutta ja kutinaa. Sitä tulisi käyttää myös pahenemisvaiheen aikana AtoControl Acute Care -voiteen, Anti-Itch Spray -suihkeen ja tavanomaisen lääkityksen rinnalla. AtoControl Calming Balm kosteuttaa välittömästi tehden ihosta pehmeän ja sileän, ja säännöllisellä käytöllä ihon kunto paranee merkittävästi.

Licochalcone A on voimakas antioksidantti. Se on tulehdusta ehkäisevä tai lievittävä (anti-inflammatorinen) ja ihoa rauhoittava ainesosa. Licochalcone A on peräisin kiinalaisen lakritsikasvin (Glycyrrhiza Inflata) juuresta, joka käyttää luonnollisia yhdisteitä suojelemaan solujaan liialliselta auringonvalolta.
Ihonhoitotuotteissa käytettynä Licochalcone A vähentää tulehdusta ja neutraloi vapaita radikaaleja, jotka vaikuttavat negatiivisesti ihosoluihin ja nopeuttavat ikääntymisprosessia. Se auttaa suojaamaan ihon syvempiä ihokerroksia auringon aiheuttamilta vaikutuksilta.
Ceramides are important lipids in the hydrolipid film (which protects the external layers of skin). Produced naturally in healthy skin, they strengthen the skin barrier, helping to prevent moisture loss due to evaporation and keeping out irritants that can cause inflammation and itching. When skin’s Ceramide levels fall the skin barrier is impaired. Skin can start to lose water and become dry and irritated.
Eucerin uses synthetic Ceramides that are biologically-identical and that enhance skin’s natural barrier – locking in moisture and preventing dryness and irritation.
Grape Seed Oil is a rich source of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E. The polyphenols and flavonoids found in Grape Seed Oil are strong anti-oxidant compounds and, thus, provide protection from damage caused by free radicals while Linoleic acid soothes and nourishes skin.
Evening Primrose Oil is a natural plant oil that contains a high percentage of Omega-6 fatty acids, namely Linoleic and Gamma-Linolenic Acid. These help stabilise the skin’s natural protective barrier and reduce moisture loss, which in turn soothes and nourishes rough and dry skin.
What is the difference between Eucerin AtopiControl Balm, Eucerin AtopiControl Lotion and Eucerin AtopiControl Cream?
The balm and the lotion are both ideal for use on atopic skin all over the body. They are both effective at soothing skin and supporting its natural barrier function. The choice of which product to use comes down to textural preference: the balm is an oil-in-water formulation and is lighter; the water-in-oil lotion is richer. Some people choose to use the lotion during the winter and the balm during the summer. The cream has a thicker texture and has been specially formulated for use on problem areas such as the elbows and knees.

What do you mean by a ‘flare-up’ and ‘the period between flare-ups’?
Broadly speaking, Atopic Dermatitis has two different phases. A ‘flare-up’ is one of the names used to describe the acute, active phase when skin is at its most irritable. It can feel intensely itchy, you may experience a burning sensation and skin can look red, dry and flaky. Between these acute, flare-up phases are periods of time when your skin is relatively calm and less irritated. This period is also known as the non-acute, non-active or interval phase. The length of each phase varies greatly depending on the individual, but products specially formulated to care for atopic skin − such as those in the Eucerin AtopiControl range − can help to extend the period between flare-ups and offer relief during acute flare-ups.
Is Atopic Dermatitis the same as Atopic Eczema?
Atopic Dermatitis and Atopic Eczema are collective terms for inflammatory changes to the skin and they include many different dermatological diseases. Atopic Dermatitis and Atopic Eczema are used to describe the same chronic inflammatory condition.
